Child Protection / Fingerprinting

New Procedure!

The Archdiocese of Cincinnati has instituted a new procedure regarding fingerprinting and background checks of volunteers and employees. As of January 1, 2014, SELECTION.COM, a long established Cincinnati company, is responsible for manual background checks for all volunteers, teachers and employees.

There is no longer fingerprinting at St. Albert the Great or any church or school within the Archdiocese. The last date for fingerprinting was Wednesday, December 18th, 2013.

Only teachers, employees and high school coaches have to be fingerprinted every five years. That procedure will take place at the SELECTION.COM home office in Middletown.

With this new procedure, volunteers must have a manual background check every five years, but they will no longer have to be fingerprinted. Having a manual re-check every five years is a new procedure from the State of Ohio for volunteers and is also now a requirement of the Archdiocese. This new procedure will ask you to use your own computer to supply vital information. You will be directed to go to a completely secure website, www.selection.com.

The parish will be notified when your background check is complete. Fulfilling this commitment and attending a VIRTUS workshop will be necessary for volunteers.

VIRTUS

Protecting God’s Children

In 2011 an audit of the Archdiocese of Cincinnati was held and from this audit it was determined that the Child Protection video needed to be updated. The United States Council of Catholic Bishops has strongly encouraged all of the Archdioceses to adopt the VIRTUS program. VIRTUS was created by the National Catholic Risk Retention Group under the direction of Monsignor Kevin McCoy. Monsignor McCoy asked the following question of prominent experts in many disciplines: ‘Can child sexual abuse be prevented?’  The VIRTUS program was created from these discussions.

VIRTUS is a word derived from Latin, and means valor, moral strength, excellence and worth. It denotes a way of life and manner of behavior that always aspires to the highest, most positive attributes of people and aspects of human interaction. The VIRTUS program requires all participants to develop awareness through facilitator led sessions.
